Amara opened Little Oak in 2008 with six children, one room and a borrowed sandpit. She trained as an early-years teacher in Lagos and then in Portland, and she still takes the kindergarten reading group on Friday mornings. Most days she is at the door at 7:30 and again at 17:00, which is how she knows every family by name. Ask her about the waiting list and she will tell you the truth.
