Little Oak
Kindergarten, preschool and daycare
About
Small on purpose.
Amara Okafor opened Little Oak in 2008 with six children and one room. We have grown to four rooms and stopped there: forty-four children is the number where every teacher still knows every name.

The story
Since 2008, one room at a time.
- 2008
One room, six children
Amara Okafor opened Little Oak in a rented room on SE Hawthorne with six children, two teachers and a borrowed sandpit. The sandpit is still here.
- 2014
The garden
We bought the house next door for its garden: an apple tree, raised beds, a hose. The toddlers went outside every morning and have not come back in since.
- 2021
Four rooms, and that is it
The kindergarten room opened and we stopped growing at forty-four children. That is the number where every teacher still knows every name, and every parent's.

Come and see it
Come and see it for yourself.
Come and see it for yourself.A visit is forty minutes: the rooms, the garden, the kitchen at lunch, and all your questions. Tell us the room and the start you have in mind and we bring the right teacher.
